

When it's done, put your PC in Airplane Mode and poke around your email folders to see if your messages are readable. Again, this process may take a long time if you have a lot of old messages, so continue doing other work and let it do its thing. POP, on the other hand, is a bit more dated, and creates a completely separate database on your computer. IMAP tries to mirror what's on the server, so if you delete a message from your inbox on, that email will disappear from Thunderbird as well. When given the choice between IMAP and POP, you'll generally want to choose IMAP. Again, check your email service's documentation if you have trouble.
